HATS: Their latest production which ran for four nights last week was a great success, giving pleasure to a large number of people, not least the cast themselves who were obviously enjoying the parts they were playing. The play 'No Sex Please - We're British' was an ambitious choice for an amateur group, especially given the limitations of a small stage, but the result was admirable. The director, Ken Knight, made excellent use of the space at his disposal and the timing and execution of the moves, especially the multiple entrances and exits, was extremely well done.
Congratulations must also go to the set designer and builders who had contrived to create what purposed to be the central area of a first-floor apartment which led, in turn, to other rooms and another staircase - all very convincing and put to good use by the characters in the play who needed to be in and out or up and down at rapidly recurring intervals.
Characterisation was well sustained, with some very good performances, at least two of which were of outstanding merit, and the laughter and applause which resulted were very well deserved. The long list of names under the heading of production team showed clearly how much the production owed to the efforts of a large number of supporters, all of whom, together with those mentioned above, deserve the village's warmest thanks for providing entertainment of this quality. Events such as this make up a vital part of our community life and are to be greatly appreciated.
