Old Coventrians 10, Pershore 19 pts

PERSHORE ground out a useful away win after an often bad tempered affair, atrociously refereed by an exchange official.

Pershore won by refusing to be intimidated after starting well and forcing Coventrians on to the back foot.

From a well worked line-out, the ball was shifted along the backs when Andy Watson hit the ball at pace straight through the middle he took out two tacklers and fed the ball to Ben Pullin who outpaced the defence to touchdown. Robin Haines converted.

Pershore continued to control matters and a clever mis-move in the centre saw winger Lee Norster sprint down the touch line, cut inside the full back and score under the posts. Haines converted.

The second half began with Coventrians adopting some unsavoury tactics which put Pershore off their game, but they soon rallied together and from a driving maul. Sid Hirons and Jem Richardson led a blindside break that was eventually finished off by Andy Watson who scored under the posts. Unfortunately, Haines missed the conversion.

Coventrians scored two late tries in the final five minutes but the game was by then beyond them.

The winners were pleased with the result more than the performance and look forward to hosting Evesham in the North Midlands Cup on Sunday (2).
