CHIPPING Campden Bowling Club lost it's green 13 years ago when the Noel Arms decided to use the area where the green was for a car park and housing development.
The club fought for survival and made use of a green behind the Victoria Arms in Bretforton for ten years while a suitable site in Campden was found.
The pub and it's green is now also a housing development and the club has only survived thanks to the support of local clubs who have let them play away matches for the last three seasons.
The club now has a site on Station Road in Chipping Campden and the members are excited about the prospect of having home matches again in the near future. They hope to have the green completed by the middle of next year.
The club has applied to Cotswold District Council for a grant to complete the green and is keen to introduce new people to the game.
Many people have said that they would like to give the game a go when it resurfaces in Campden and it's almost that time so it will soon be time to call people's bluff.
The club believes that the future of the sport belongs to young people and you only have to look at recent television coverage to see that it is mainly young players at the top of the sport.
The outdoor season runs from April to September and the club would like to hear from new members by contacting Gary Robinson on 01386 841988.
