MOTORISTS were stuck in traffic chaos on the M42 today after an accident killed a lorry driver.

Two other people were injured.

Firefighters from Hereford & Worcester Fire Brigade and the West Midlands used heavy-duty lifting gear to clear the wreckage of three articulated lorries and several other vehicles which crashed after the initial impact.

The accident happened at about 5.20am between Junctions 2 and 3 on the westbound carriageway, near Bromsgrove.

Thee carriageway was expected to be opened between 3 and 4pm today.

Traffic on the eastbound carriageway was queuing for more than six miles this morning and other local routes were congested.

Paramedics took two casualties to the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch. Both were suffering from minor injuries.

One driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two of the heavy goods vehicles had slipped down the embankment.

Motorists are being urged to avoid the area until further notice.
