SUCKLEY kart racer Steve Gray heads into the final round of the British Club 100 Kart Championships at Buckmore Park in Kent on Sunday needing only to qualify for the B final to win the 2001 Rookie Championship.

Steve, a sales manager at Brooklyn Ford Worcester, is in his first full season of kart racing and has competed this year against drivers from all over Europe at circuits all over the country in the 11 round Autosport Magazine-backed championship.

His successes this year have led to him being offered a drive in the 2002 Endurance championships with the prestigious FA Racing Team as part of a two-kart four-driver line up.

Should Steve clinch the national award he will become the oldest driver to do so by some considerable years and is proof that age is no barrier to success in motorsport.
