A MEETING to try and co-ordinate Upton's Golden Jubilee celebrations had to be called off because of a lack of interest.
Bert Loynes, president of the Upton branch of the Royal British Legion, said that he had attended the meeting last Thursday (November 15) with a friend, Wal Hampton, and that just two others turned up.
"I've been to four meetings to try and organise something," he said.
"At the first there were 15 people, at the second there were 11, at the third eight and then there were four.
"I think there are so many other festivals in Upton that it's extremely difficult to find people with time to spare.
"I'm still reasonably optimistic that we will celebrate the Jubilee in Upton - someone suggested to me that we could combine it with Oak Apple Day.
"We'll just have to see what happens after Christmas."
