A DETERMINED Malvern side completed their sixth straight win with an impressive display away to Kenilworth 2nd XV last Saturday.

KENILWORTH II 8pts, MALVERN II 17pts

Malvern's tight five contained only one player from the previous week but from the start Malvern's re-vamped pack made inroads into Kenilworth territory pressurising the opposition and forcing errors, while the back line, prompted by veteran D Green created problems for the home defence.

A sustained period of good driving play sucked in the home cover and D Handy picked up to sprint clear for a 20 yard run in. A Hills converted for a 7-0 lead.

Kenilworth responded immediately with a well-drilled pack forcing Malvern to concede ground and their hard work finally paid dividends with a well worked but unconverted try in the corner moments before half time.

From the re-start Malvern's pack provided the platform for their backs to cut loose and a number of chances were created culminating in a try for O Banwell. More chances came and went for the visitors with winger B Hughes, returning steadily to match fitness, testing the home defence. N Bruton replaced injured centre A Ruddock with 20 minutes left and helped stem the tide, which had turned in Kenilworth's favour. Malvern, defending furiously, conceded a number of penalties one of which the home side converted, to cut Malvern's lead to four points, but timely clearances by S Fahey relieved the pressure.

Then with five minutes left Malvern secured the result with winger C Williams racing into the corner to score a well deserved try.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Malvern 2nds XV are at home to Old Richians (2.30).

MALVERN Thirds swamped Greyhound 50-0 at home last Saturday.
