MALVERN RFC U13's are now quite accustomed to taking the northbound carriageway of the M5 for away matches and last Sunday was no different, with a squad of 18 travelling to Handsworth, where they administered a businesslike win over a previously undefeated side, which included some impressively outsize forward players.

HANDSWORTH U13's 0pts, MALVERN U13 'Pirates' 43pts

The speed and strength of Malvern's tackling was demonstrated to good effect early in the second half, when Handsworth were forced back to their own try-line during a period of sustained defensive pressure from the visitors. Eventually the home side lost possession and conceded a try as the marauding Malvern pack eagerly pounced upon the loose ball.

The whole squad of 18 contributed to the 'Pirates' victory, with captain Will Bowen scoring five tries and halfbacks Rhys Coles and John Brierly claiming one apiece, with Brierly kicking four conversion goals for the extra points.

However, Malvern's man-of-the-match was outside centre Jack Knowles who contributed a consistent performance throughout.
