SINGER Evelyn Tubb, described by one critic as "one of the few truly outstanding sopranos of her generation", is appearing at Malvern Concert Club's next event on Thursday, November 29, at the Forum Theatre.
With the ensemble Sprezzatura (lute, harpsichord, viola de gamba), Evelyn will be presenting a programme entitled Brotherly Love, a programme of 17th Century English songs.
It focuses on two pairs of brothers: Henry and William Lawes and Henry and Daniel Purcell.
In each case, the elder brother was the more prolific and better-remembered, but the younger composed works of considerable genius as well.
Evelyn Tubb is attracting ever-increasing admiration for her innovative and adventurous performances, which breathe life and character into familiar and forgotten songs.
Born on the Isle of Wight, she studied at the Guildhall School of Music and also had a background in dance before concentrating on singing.
This plus her eclectic musical tastes has given rise to her own expressive style.
As a member of the Consort of Musicke and in her partnerships with Michael Fields and Anthony Rooley, Evelyn has made dozens of recordings and given concerts around the world.
Evelyn specialises in dramatic singing, whether in intimate chamber music recitals, or in opera and oratorio.
She appeared in the Vox Animae production of Hildegard of Bingen's medieval music-drama Ordo Virtutam and has sung dramatic works from the baroque to the present, including a song-cycle by David Bedford.
The concert is at 7.30pm and tickets are £12 for adults or £5 for students under 21 in full time education, from 01684 892277.
The club then has a break until after Christmas, when it reconvenes for the second half of its 99th season. The performers on Thursday, January 24 will be Douglas Boyd, oboe, and The Vellinger Quartet.
