A FOURTH league win in a row for Malvern Radar in Warndon last Sunday but they had to fight all the way to secure the points.

LAKES SPORTS 1, MALVERN RADAR 2

Lakes may have been struggling near the foot of the table but on this performance it was hard to see why. Their speedy forwards had Radar on the back foot from the first whistle and indeed they opened the scoring in the second minute when John Martin sped down the right wing and crossed to Jamie Rawlings who smashed the ball passed the exposed Chris Ball in the Radar goal. The keeper was soon again back in action when he bravely saved at the feet of Gary Whenman at the near post. Radar slowly fought their way back into the game but they found the experienced Mark Walker in excellent form at the heart of the Lakes defence and it was he who prevented the equaliser with a spectacular goal line clearance after John Rooney had lobbed the advancing keeper.

Radar went looking for the equaliser at the start of the second half and finally got it on the hour. A clever through ball released Tony Bishop who was unceremoniously brought down by Lakes keeper Steve Maskell resulting in a penalty. After lengthy treatment for both players, Phil Birch confidently scored from the spot.

Amazingly Bishop stayed on the pitch as Radar had used their only sub and although he had a nasty rib injury he still created a couple of chances one of which Dave Marshall headed in only for the ref to disallow the goal for pushing.

Gary Harman then appeared to be fouled in the area only for the penalty shouts to be ignored leaving Harman furious.

Rooney then had a header booted off the line by Paul Davies but the deciding goal finally came with about ten minutes left when the ball broke nicely to Marshall who scored in the corner from 10 yards.

This Sunday Radar meet local rivals Express 88 at Victoria Park in what promises to be an interesting match. Radar players meet 9.45am at the ground.
