THIS Under 13's Trophy World Cup saw Newtown go through to the quarter finals.
EVESHAM UTD 0, NEWTOWN SPORTS 2
Newtown's John Davies had an effort disallowed for offside before an outstanding goal from David Reynolds gave Newtown the lead. Evesham pushed forward and hit the woodwork and gained many free kicks but Newtown keeper Tom Soley dealt with all danger well.
The second period was even until Craig Philpotts threaded a neat ball to John Davies who headed on for Lee Jenkins to seal the game.
Tom Ferguson dominated in midfield and he, Joe Ball and John Davies were pipped for man of the match by keeper Tom Soley.
INKBERROW 0, WELLAND U13s 6
THIS Mercian Elgar U13 Cup game gave both teams a break from league action and Welland won a place in the quarter-final draw.
The game was fairly even for the first 10 minutes but then Welland took the lead with a fine goal from Martyn Smith who also added a second soon after and shortly before the break Martyn completed his hat-trick.
Welland made a change for the second period and gave new signing Liam Harford his debut. Richard Pitt scored the fourth goal when his shot was saved by the keeper but had already crossed the line. The introduction of Josh Fernie and Rob Smith gave some fresh legs to the midfield and two goals from top scorer Russell Alderson completed the scoring.
Man of the match was Martyn Smith.
MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS 16, WORCESTER RANGERS 0
WANDERERS went through the first round of the Mercian Elgar U12's Knockout Cup in fine style when they overwhelmed Rangers with their speed, passing, movement and shooting.
James Lush, who had a splendid game on the left wing, cut inside the defence for the first goal. Luke Borton on the right wing then got two goals from great long range shots.
After that start a demoralised Rangers team were taken apart by Luke Butler (four gaols), Jack Higgs (four) and Paul Jordan (three) who all played excellent football. Calum Campbell got his first goal of the season and even the stand-in goalie Max White with nothing much else to do joined in with a sparkling run down the right wing.
BROMYARD 1,
NEWTOWN SPORTS BOYS 2
NEWTOWN travelled to Bromyard for the first round of the Mercian Elgar U12's League Cup.
Newtown started with only nine players but were determined not to let Bromyard benefit, all of the Newtown team putting in extra effort.
This paid off when they had a throw in near the penalty box. C Griffiths threw to A Johnson who passed to J Ferguson to cross first time to the near post, where M Holbrow slotted it past the keeper, putting them in front. Not for long though as Bromyard replied straight away with a through ball and a lob over the keeper.
Newtown were back to full strength in the second half and some excellent play by both sides made it a very even match. Newtown scoring again when defender A Tighe played a lovely ball up the left to M Holbrow who played a quick one two with A Johnson then passed into the box for J Ferguson to tap it into the goal.
This time Bromyard couldn't reply being denied several times by some brilliant saves by the debut goal keeper M Higgs.
MEADOW PARK 0,
NEWTOWN SPORTS COLTS U11s 2
LAST Saturday Newtown Sports Colts played Meadow Park from the Stourport League.
In the first half both teams played open attractive football, with possibly the Colts having the edge through Wesley Powell, James Gath and Baz Edwards in midfield.
In the second half more space was created by both sides. Wesley Powell on the left-hand side got more involved and it was following one of his runs that Jacob Buckle opened the scoring, taking his chance well. Meadow Park came back at the Colts, but some good defending from David Roskams and Max Elmes thwarted any efforts. With ten minutes left, Powell made it 2-0 when he poached a fine goal. This was a hard fought game which the Colts (sponsored by Cotteswold Dairies) did well to win.
DROITWICH SPA COBRAS 0,
MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS 5
MALVERN lined up for this Mercian Elgar U10's Cup game unbeaten and brimming with confidence and an exhilarating team performance saw Wanderers move into the next stage of a competition they won last year.
The breakthrough came when a carefully directed Josh Asquith cross was crisply despatched by a left footed Alex Wren drive past the despairing grasp of the keeper. Malvern now stepped up a gear and Adam Mayo deservedly scored from close range. Pressure continued and a wonderful strike from Josh Asquith crashed against the bar but half time came with no further score added.
The lead increased early in the second half when Josh Asquith who squeezed the ball into the net for number three and minutes later he added his second and a fourth for Malvern. Dougie Howie then sealed a victory after latching onto the rebound from a Alex Wren drive.
