14/6/01 PROMOTED Stourport Swifts have another reason to be happy after capturing all five players they targeted at the end of last season.

Centre-backs David Davies, snapped up from Oldbury and put on contract, and Quentin Townsend, an ex-Wolverhampton Wanderers trainee signed from Bromsgrove, are two important additions.

Swifts, who play in the Dr Martens League Western Division for the first time next season, have also added versatile left-sided former Telford man Asa Charlton from Rushall and talented Oldbury utility player Willie Dunn.

But the major capture for boss Rod Brown could be the return of midfielder Adam Nicholls, an important figure for new rivals Redditch United in recent seasons.

Assistant manager Gary Whild said: "We've been chasing Adam for two or three seasons but the stumbling block was dropping down a standard.

"He has always been one of the best players in that division in his midfield role."

And of former Kidderminster youth teamer Davies, Whild added: "There have been professional clubs looking at him."

Forward Kerry Giddings has left for Halesowen Town and Swifts are expecting to lose defensive rock Mark Dearlove.

He is considering retiring to concentrate on his business and to rest knee problems.

The rest of Swifts' squad of around 20 - many with Dr Martens experience - will stay.

And the club are finalising pre-season friendly dates, hoping for fixtures with Kidderminster and Hereford.

At the Midland Alliance presentation night, Rod Brown picked up manager of the year and Lee Booth was golden boot winner with 40 league goals.

Swifts' last 16 place in the FA Vase was also marked by the league.
