A TEENAGE girl was mugged as she walked alone through an Evesham alleyway.

Police say the 16-year-old victim was robbed on Thursday, November 22, around 5.10pm.

She was walking in the alleyway between The Crown Public House and Evesham Hospital.

Her attacker pushed her from behind into a hedge and then forced her purse out of her hand.

The thief stole £40 and ran off towards Waterside.

"This has been a frightening experience," said PC Claire Ryan of Worcester police.

Police said they would be talking to the girl today in an effort to build a description of her assailant.

The landlord of the pub said that his customers had not heard about the attack on the girl.

The mugging took place just a week after two raiders ransacked the home of an elderly man in the town.

The burglars, who masqueraded as policemen, broke in through a bedroom window on Wednesday, November 14.

They searched the upstairs rooms before going downstairs where the homeowner was watching television.

No violence was used and nothing was stolen but the pensioner was left shaken.

"I would appeal for anyone with any information about the street alleyway robbery to call Worcester police on 01905 723888 or anonymously on Crimestoppers 0800 555111," said PC Ryan.

"The call is free and if it results in a charge or conviction the caller is eligible for a reward."

"If you are concerned about your safety Your Practical Guide to Crime Prevention is available from your nearest police station," PC Ryan added.
