n I WOULD like to reply to the letter from Marion Large (You Say, November 20) on the subject of hunt terrier work and country sports.
Contrary to the claim by Ms Large I have never ''attacked'' Maurice Brett for his deeply-held views about hunting. I have met Maurice on more than one occasion and found him to be both intelligent and polite.
Ms Large suggests that hunt terrier work can never be videoed because it is inhumane If this were true then why were two detailed video sequences of terrier work broadcast on British television?
This independently-filmed video clearly showed in full detail the effective use of working terriers for pest control. Having failed to prove their case against hunt terrier work on the grounds that it is inhumane, the animal rights fraternity is now attempting to portray it as some black art practised secretly in the countryside.
Her claim that MPs are influenced by video film of hunting to vote for a ban is incorrect. The percentage of MPs seeking a ban is steadily falling.
Ready-made Private Members Bill's with heavy financial backing may influence certain young ambitious MPs to temporally take up the cause of animal rights but the voting public are more interested in hospitals, schools and safe streets.
JON BURGESS, Malvern.
