TOM Moody has given the thumbs up to the Worcestershire Cricket Centre at Prince Henry's School in Evesham as the venue for the County players preparations for next season.

Last winter the New Road squad went to the new facility at Edgbaston for their winter practice and coaching.

County Director of Cricket Moody recently visited the Worcestershire Cricket Centre and is keen for his players to use the facility for their 'warm-up' programme for next year's campaign.

He said: "I am very happy indeed with Evesham. It is a magnificent facility and importantly the lighting is up to international standards.

"The bowlers are well looked after with 15 metre run-ups and under floor shock padding at the bowling creases. The net lanes offer a good surface to bat on, while the access and equipment available, such as video equipment and bowling machines, offer all that a coach can need."

New Road chief executive Mark Newton said: "The Worc-estershire Cricket Centre in Evesham is, as far as we are concerned, the official indoor facility for the County club this winter. The Centre in Evesham has always been used by the County youth squads and will be the winter home of the re-structured County Academy.

"We used the new indoor centre at Edgbaston last year but the view of the players and coaches is that Evesham is just as good and offers everything we need for winter practice. It is also appropriate we use a locally based facility."

The Worcestershire Cricket Centre is the only indoor cricket facility in the county built to meet ECB and international standards in full, and is one of only two such centres in the West Midlands, the other being the indoor school at Edgbaston.

The busy winter season is already under way at the Centre, with trials and assessments for hopeful youngsters, and an active programme of coaching led by the County's assistant coach Damian D'Oliviera.

From new year to March, the County players, the Academy squad and Worcestershire Young Cricketers, including the county girls' squads, will be holding regular sessions.

"Our peak months for cricket are February and March", said Centre manager Trevor Know-les.
