AFTER a week's rest Upton Ladies hockey team were at home to Droitwich Thirds at MGC.

UPTON 4, DROITWICH THIRDS 0

Despite putting Droitwich under pressure from the start Upton had to be patient with Tania Philips, playing in an unaccustomed position on the right, giving early support to the forwards. The breakthrough came following an inspired pass from Rachel Barber to Bev Ingram who scored with a well taken strike from the top of the D.

Droitwich attacked down their right wing on a couple of occasions. However, good teamwork by Sarah Loader and Jacky Farley in defence kept the danger to a minimum.

After half time Upton took control of the game and their second goal came following a flowing move between Trudy Warner and Martha Recordon. Martha's strike was saved by the Droitwich goalie but Bev Ingram was on hand to claim her second goal.

Martha Recordon was again on the attack firing home a shot from the top of the D between the keeper and post before Trudy Warner's free hit found Vanessa Dawe whose fierce shot, though initially saved, found its way over the line.

Player of the match was Martha Recordon.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Upton are away to Droitwich Seconds.
