FARMERS in Droitwich Spa are being urged to be on their guard against foul play by seasonal poultry pinchers with the boom in demand for birds at Christmas drawing nearer.
The Country Land and Business Association (CLA) has issued a warning to producers to be on the lookout for bird rustlers who are eager to cash in on the seasonal call for turkeys, chickens, geese and ducks.
Regional CLA rural surveyor Caroline Bedell said: "Failure to take strict security precautions to safeguard a flock could be rewarded with a miserable Christmas when the farmer finds his shed empty one morning and months of work and investment destroyed."
