IN response to the letters about my comments on Paganism (Advertiser, November 28), I would like to make the following points.
a) I did not accuse Andrew Marshall of worshipping Satan. I stated I believed the spiritual power behind Paganism is Satan.
Mr Marshall believes Paganism has never had anything to do with Satan but I believe that Satan has a lot to do with Paganism.
b) The letters printed were full of personal attacks against me, which is sad. I responded to a letter in the local paper voicing my disagreement and concern. I wrote what I believe to be true as a Christian minister without personal attack or condemnation.
c) I am not ignorant of Paganism and its history. I am well aware of its belief system based on the worship of a Mother Goddess and the Horned God consort.
I am well aware that various cultures have added other gods and goddesses. In fact, the internet's Book of Deities website lists more than 1,700 invoked by modern pagans.
I am well aware each person defines their own brand of Paganism based on what feels right.
I know that neo-Pagans often identify with one of many pre-Christian religious traditions, especially Druidism which focuses on interaction with the gods and goddesses of the Celtic past.
My concern is that behind all of this there is demonic power and the lord of all this is Satan.
d) What really emerged from the letters was an undermining of the person of Jesus. He Himself said "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, no-one comes to the Father except through me." (John's Gospel Chapter 14 verse 6).
He came amongst us as our Saviour because we need saving.
The uniqueness of Christianity is of the God who came to search for us who are lost. He went to the Cross to pay the penalty for our sins. That's how much he loves us.
He conquered death and is coming again as the judge of every life. He offers forgiveness and eternal life to all those who receive Him as their Saviour and follow Him.
This is the Good News we all need to hear and respond to.
