Evesham United lost a remarkable Worcester Royal Infirmary Senior Cup quarter-final at Ledbury Town last night.

United led 4-1 at the interval but an astonishing fightback saw the West Midlands Premier Division side win 7-5.

Duncan Preedy put Ledbury in front after five minutes only for Evesham to come storming back.

Dean Roberts scrambled in the first on 14 minutes following Shaun Cunnington's corner and then Paul Davies helped himself to a hat-trick. The veteran striker headed home in the 35th minute, converted Shaun Pratt's cross four minutes later and rifled in from 20 yards on the stroke of half time.

Robbie Colwell pulled one back for Ledbury soon into the second period but substitute Andy Hodgetts made it 5-2 on 54 minutes.

Preedy scored a third for Ledbury and Mark Herbert netted twice in two minutes to square the tie at 5-5 before Stuart Hall grabbed two late goals to leave United's players and supporters shell-shocked.

Pershore Town drew 0-0 with Highgate United in the Midland Combination Premier Division, both sides lacking the finishing touch.

New signing Steven Spencer did well on his debut and was twice denied by Highgate 'keeper Giles Clements, who also made three good saves from Jon Gregory.

Town 'keeper Neil Turner also made two excellent saves to keep out efforts from Marcus Ricketts and Neil Kitching.

Ten-man Redditch United were held 3-3 by Solihull Borough in the first round of the Worcestershire Senior Cup last night.

Ian Mitchell (2) and Tommy Byrne netted for Reds who had Paul Danks sent off for dissent. Boro's scorers were Derek Hall, Naveed Arshad and Manuel Perreira.
