DEAR EDITOR - Having seen displays in Droitwich High Street about Kidderminster Road housing development, I checked facts for myself by visiting Wychavon planning.

The environmental department has confirmed the site as flood plain. County archaeologists have confirmed major historic remains lie beneath, and a survey has confirmed partial contamination of the area with heavy metals and toxic chemicals.

There are plans to remove all soil from the site and dump it by the River Salwarpe.

If housing is built the flood plain may collapse and block the Salwarpe, flooding homes in Droitwich.

The water may be contaminated by dumped soil seeping into the river, and removing all soil from site will destroy the historic remains.

Homes, health and heritage of Droitwich people will be endangered.

Councillor board members of the housing association have conflict of interest and must abstain.

I ask all other Droitwich councillors the following.

In view of the facts, are councillors still in favour of proposed housing on Kidderminster Road with accompanying risks of flooding, pollution and heritage destruction?
