THE most recent meeting featured a return visit by Philip Coventry, of Redditch Pictorial History Society, with a further selection of slides of old Redditch.

The evening was one of pure nostalgia for the small market town which Redditch once was, not so very long ago.

Photographs showed the old streets lined with small shops which are now, sadly, no more but lie beneath the new town centre.

The most notable feature of the photographs showed the truly rural setting of Redditch. Many of the streets were lined with trees, especially around the church so that it is easy to see why it is still called Church Green. It was also notable that many areas, now covered with houses, were once quiet rural lanes in the depths of the countryside where children could, and did, play in safety all day.

Also featured in the slides were some of the large houses around Redditch - some now used as offices, or others which have been converted to smaller dwellings.

The next event on December 12 will be a special Christmas meeting with a local history and Christmas quiz.

All are welcome to take part and there will be a cash prize for the winning team and also a raffle.

Meetings are held at the Greig Hall at 8pm.
