Newent III 0, Pershore III 1
PERSHORE were in confident mood as they sought a third successive win.
And, after dominating throughout, they finished the game wondering just how they didn't manage to score more.
Matt Hughes was in wasteful mood as he spurned several scoring opportunities but he did make amends midway through the first half with a well-struck shot that the unlucky Newent goalkeeper could only deflect into his own goal.
The second half saw Pershore determined to turn their pressure into more goals which did allow Newent to break on a number of occasions, although Whitehead and Boswad marshalled the defence well to keep Ian Anderson cold in the Pershore goal.
Notable performances came from David Corfield, playing his first ever game of hockey, while 12-year-old Tom Whitehead nearly notched his first goal for the club only to be denied by an excellent save.
