I TOO was appalled at the attack on Woodstock, Wendy Stobbart's cavalier king charles spaniel (Letters, November 15).

My dog Zeta, 12, also a cavalier, was attacked last July by a neighbour's alsatian.

She was shaken so badly that she had six broken ribs, a damaged pelvis, and was very badly bruised and had puncture wounds. She died four days later.

She was attacked by the same dog 12 months prior to this attack, but my husband was there at the time and pulled the alsatian off.

That time my dog was in shock and could not walk, and lay in her basket for half an hour.

The attitude of these neighbours was disgusting. They suggested that we could go and buy another cavalier up the road, and it took them eight days to come to see how Zeta was.

I telephoned the police who were very sympathetic and logged my complaint. They told me to write to the neighbours asking them to pay the vet's bill, as it was the least they could do.

As I was writing to them their dog was roaming loose again outside my garden.

I am glad the police decided to act in Wendy Stobbart's case.
