December 7, 1901

Evesham: Frank Green, a labourer of Port Street, Evesham, was summoned for leaving a horse and cart unattended in Port Street on November 18. The defendant pleaded guilty. PC Grove said he saw a horse and cart standing in Port Street from 12.05 until 12.40. He saw defendant and told him about it, and he said he it would not hurt; he had nowhere else to put it. He let it remain until 12.55 and then went away. He was fined 5s including costs.

December 11, 1926

Charlton: A most successful whist drive was held in Charlton schoolroom last Friday in aid of the Charlton Sick and Dividend Society Club. Twenty one tables were occupied for whist and Mr W G Stephens very capably carried out the duties of MC. Mrs Frank Pritchard later presented the prizes and the net proceeds handed over to the treasurer were £5 14s 3d.

Evesham: Professor W Valentine Mayneord and Professor F W Spiers, both former pupils of Prince Henry's Grammar School, Evesham, are among the 17 honorary scientific advisers appointed by the Home Secretary to assist in the study of the scientific and technical aspects of national planning for Civil Defence. The Home Secretary, Sir David Maxwell Fyfe said the position of the advisers would be similar to that of the senior gas advisers of the last war, except that their field of responsibility would include other hazards, particularly those of atomic and biological as well as chemical warfare.

Evesham: Lord Harris, minister of state for the Home Office is to renew investigations into the proposed establishment of an overnight stay centre in Evesham for visitors to prisoners in Long Lartin. In a letter to Sir Michael Spicer, MP for South Worcestershire, he says that the investigations will enable him to decide whether or not the Home Office will make a grant towards the cost of the centre.
