BROWN Owl is soon to lose her hoot at Hampton Brownies in Evesham.
Audrey Woolley is retiring from her lofty perch, but with great regret.
She has been the mainstay of the group for more than 30 years, but now she is 65 she has to go.
Mrs Woolley said: "I'd love to go on but I can't. I have enjoyed the job very much. It's been a lovely friendship and I'll miss the children."
Mrs Woolley joined the Guiding association in 1969, after being persuaded by her local shop to help the Brownies, who needed leaders. She had two sons, Philip and Andrew, in the Scouting movement, so was happy to be working on familiar ground.
Of all the changes over the years, the best one, she thinks, was when the new uniforms were introduced, with joggers and bright yellow T-shirts.
Tawny Owl Elizabeth Rodway is also leaving after about 15 years because of pressure of work. Mrs Woolley said: "She's been fantastic and so have all the other helpers."
