HOPING just to collect game points from Monday's visit to Barnt Green, Evesham returned home with a Worcestershire League win under their belts.
Standing second in the table, the hosts could only manage two 3-0 wins, a total matched by Evesham who added Mary Boyle's 3-2 success to that tally to take the match by the same slim margin.
Karen Campbell and Sarah Bent both won 3-0 despite the former not playing one of her better games and Bent serving out on at least seven occasions!
Boyle made a good start to take the opener 9-3 but then lost the next two. It was 9-3 again to Boyle in the fourth and she again dominated the decider with the help of some winning drop shots to secure the match points.
The night's losers were Karen Ferris, who never got going, and No 1 Lorna Robinson, who played exceptionally well against a formidable opponent.
Results: L Robinson lost 3-0 (3-9, 9-10, 3-9); M Boyle won 3-2 (9-3, 2-9, 2-9, 9-3, 9-3); K Ferris lost 3-0 (1-9, 4-9, 1-9); S Bent won 3-0 (9-6, 9-2, 9-7); K Campbell won 3-0 (9-3, 9-0, 9-4).
The club has enjoyed a healthy season so far but suffered a setback when their No 1 county player returned to Wales last summer.
This has meant a struggle to compete with the better sides in the league and any ladies in the area who used to compete at this level or any aspiring players keen to set foot on the court again are welcome to join this progressive and friendly section.
