LAST Sunday's morning service of Holy Communion at St Peter's Church was conducted by Rev Douglas Walker who has recently come to live in Callow End on his retirement. His last parish was in Shoeburyness on the Isle of Sheppey. The first candle of Advent was lit at the start of the service.
Next Sunday the family service is at 11am at St Peter's Church. In the afternoon at 2.30pm Worcester Division Guide Association is holding a Christingle service to which all Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers, Young Leaders and Senior Section are invited. The event is in aid of the Children's Society and Christingle oranges will be distributed.
Powick Pre-School held a Christmas fayre in the Parish Hall last Sunday afternoon. There was a very happy, festive atmosphere and the children especially enjoyed the bouncy castle and face painting. Other stalls and attractions included cakes, Christmas decorations, tombola, raffle, nearly new, toys and bric-a-brac. Over £300 was raised for Pre-School funds.
Powick Parish Ramblers meet again on Friday, December 14 at Perdiswell Leisure Centre at 10am for a three mile canal walk to Diglis and the Cathedral. For information ring Isabel Brant on (01905) 23853.
First Powick Brownies will be attending the Christingle service at St Peter's church on Sunday and will hold their last meeting tonight (Friday). 30 seats have been booked for the pantomime A Christmas Carol at the Swan Theatre, Worcester for Saturday, December 15. The performance starts at 2.30pm. There will not be another meeting until Friday, January 11, 2002!
The RSPB hold its meeting on Wednesday at Powick Parish Hall at 7.30pm. This will take the form of a members' evening with photographs and anecdotes of society activities. Mince pies and coffee will be served.
This Sunday the regular book fair is being held in Powick Parish Hall, from 10am to 4pm. Refreshments will be available.
Powick Pre-school is presenting its nativity play to parents, grandparents and friends in Powick Parish Hall on Friday, December 14.
