MALVERN Ramblers Cricket Club will be known as Malvern Cricket Club following their recent annual general meeting.
The most important item on the agenda was the proposal by the members, backed by the executive committee, to change the name of the club and the membership voted overwhelmingly for it.
The club's president, Mr George Chesterton, agreed, after listening to the members' reasons for a name change, to support the proposal and thought it was a good idea for the future of the club and its intentions to move forward as one of the area's premier clubs.
Various other items were discussed, including the withdrawal of the club from the Sunday league after one season in which the players voiced their disapproval of joining at the end of the 2000 season, hence the limited availability of players during the past season.
Reports were heard from the chairman and the treasurer who was happy to report that the club was in a very healthy financial position after initial repayments of loans to members which enabled the club to build the new pavilion last year.
The election of main officers were: President Mr George Chesterton, Chairman Mrs Gill Thompson, Vice Chairman Dave Hinton, Secretary Dave Sharp, Junior Organiser Dave Sharp, Treasurer Mrs Penny Francis, Bar Secretary Eric Davis, 1st Saturday Captain Neil Thompson, 2nd Saturday Captain Dan Besgrove, 3rd Saturday Captain Keith Baker, 1st Sunday Captain Steve Carter, 2nd Sunday Captain Andy Croft, Fund Raising The Ladies Committee, Ladies Committee Representative Mrs Vivian Cullen, Press Officer Dave Hinton, Selection Representative Paul Young.
