A TEACHING aid which died out decades ago is being resurrected at a Longdon school.
Modern versions of the slate - in the form of wipe-clean boards - are to be introduced for pupils and teachers alike at Longdon St Mary's CE Primary by new head Lynne Phoenix.
She said: "I know it seems strange that we've gone full circle and gone back to using 'slates' but what goes around, comes around.
"Boards allow the whole class to respond instantly to a teacher's request for an answer, when a permanent record of the answer is not needed.
"For instance, when I'm teaching numeracy, I can ask the children to write two multiples of 12 on the board and hold them up. I can see instantly what they've done.
"Exercise books are used to keep permanent records."
The school currently has around 20 boards but aims to equip other pupils and the staff. Its medieval fayre in Upton's Memorial Hall tomorrow (Saturday) should raise the £200 needed to pay for the remainder.
