WORCESTER snooker ace Dave Finbow won through to the last 16 of the UK Championships in York -- and then said he will not reconsider his decision to retire at the end of the season.
Finbow, on medication to combat an anxiety problem, recovered from 7-5 down for a superb 9-8 victory over world number 15 Dave Harold to reach the televised stages of the competition.
The 33-year-old, ranked 47 in the world, could play Ronnie O'Sullivan for a place in the quarter-finals on Monday if the world champion wins his opening match against Ali Carter tomorrow.
"I've made my decision and I'm going to stick to it," said Finbow. "I'm not going to risk my long-term health."
Of the match, he said: "I was disgusted with the way I played at times but I got the job done in the end. The pressure was on Harold because he's a top 16 player, while I had little to lose."
Martley-based Terry Murphy had no such joy, losing 9-4 to former world champion Ken Doherty.
Ulsterman Murphy made a 101 break in the 11th frame to make it 7-4 but world number four Doherty got through to a last-16 match against Dominic Dale.
