THIS Worcester Sunday League Division Two local derby was always going to be a match of grit and determination rather than a passing game due to the wet conditions.

LANGLAND SPORTS 5, MALVERN RADAR 1

With Langlands defending an unbeaten 10-match run and Radar lying in second place in the table and also unbeaten for six games, this was an important game for both sides.

Langlands opened the scoring when a long ball upfield was latched onto by Rob Perrins and he had the strength to hold off the tackle from Phil Birch before shooting home.

The home side increased their lead when Dave Beats showed some trickery and pace on the wing before crossing from the byline to Stu Harvey, who had the simplest of tap-ins.

It was 3-0 before half-time after good work by Dakin and Brannelly allowed space for Ed Palmer to square the ball inside for Rob Perrins to strike powerfully on the half-volley, giving the visiting keeper no chance.

Five minutes into the second half Langland's Beats was injured and replaced by Drinkwater but it was Radar who grabbed the goal when a long effort was misjudged by keeper Mark Newman and finished up in the net.

Radar gathered momentum mainly through John Rooney but Langlands determined play released Stu Harvey for a one-on-one with keeper Chris Ball and although Harvey's first effort was pushed wide by the keeper, he regained the ball and squared it to Ed Palmer who coolly slotted home.

Langlands completed the scoring when Mark Brookes brought the ball out of defence before hitting a 45-yard pass to Dean Drinkwater who beat the full-back before shooting into the far corner.

The Langland man of the match was awarded to the whole team due to every player deserving it in one way or another.

On Sunday, Langland Sports are away to Plumbers Arms, meet 9.20 at Dukes Meadow.
