WELLAND took all three points in this Mercian Elgar U13 League game with a good all round team performance and a fine individual display from Martyn Smith who scored four of the seven goals.
LYPPARD RANGERS 3, WELLAND U13s 7
Smith scored his first goal from a through ball from Gareth Atkinson and then repeated the move, this time finishing a pass from Richard Pitt. This prompted some attacking from Lyppard and they scored before half time.
The first action in the second half saw a penalty to Lyppard but Chris Wheeler made a fine save, but shortly after Lyppard equalised.
Smith straight away restored the lead in completing his hat-trick and further goals from Josh Kirby, Josh Brentnall and a fourth from Smith secured the points.
Lyppard scored once more but the last goal went to Welland when Russell Alderson netted.
This victory has closed the gap between Welland and the teams above and opens up the chance to move up the table.
The man of the match award, again sponsored by the Wolverhampton Wanderers Supporters in the Stan Cullis Stand, went to Martyn Smith.
