ROSEMARY Hartmann surprised herself on Sunday by winning the Midland Orienteering Championship for girls aged ten and under.
Wyche Primary School pupil Rosemary, who lives in Malvern Wells, was the first Midlander home in the competition organised by local club Harlequins OC and held at a wet and windy Kinver Edge.
This was nine year old Rosemary's first trophy and it was all the sweeter having watched her elder brother and sister - Daniel and Heather - feature at national and international level all year.
Also in the honours was Robert Farrington of Wellington Heath who took the Midlands championship in the boys' 14 and under category.
Daniel Hartmann had to be content with second place in the boys' under 12 class.
