HEREFORD United keeper Scott Cooksey has been told he can resume light training after initial fears that his longstanding wrist injury could finish his career.
Cooksey has had an injection into his wrist and has started gentle workouts with a view to stepping up contact work if the injury improves.
Caretaker manager and player/coach Phil Robinson said it was a boost for Cooksey who has been battling the injury since the summer but added there was still an element of doubt about the wrist. "He's been told he can start light training and if progresses well he can step up the work," he said.
"But with Scott being out so long there was always an element where the consultant was not sure what the long term prognosis would be.
"Having said that if he starts to come back and he does experience difficulties he has to weigh up his options but for now it is positive news for Scott who has been out for so long."
Cooksey has had several spells at the Lilleshall Centre of Excellence in a bid to cure the problem which began when he picked up an infection in his wrist after injuring it.
At the other end of the pitch Hereford's goal drought continues with Rob Elmes still the top scorer with six goals and the Bulls with just two goals from their last six games.
Injuries have hampered the Hereford frontline and Scott Voice, struggling with a groin injury, has endured an injury ravaged season which has seen him bag just two goals.
Hereford fans have still to see the best of the summer signing who plundered nearly 40 goals for Bilston Town last year.
Another forward struggling with injury is Steve Pierarce, who saw a loan move to Halesowen Town in the Dr Martens Western Division collapse last week.
Piearce has managed just two full starts this season with six substitute appearances and his attempts to prove himself as a goalscorer in the Nationwide Conference remain unfufilled mainly due to injury.
