BROMSGROVE are off the top of the Midlands West Two table after arch rivals Old Laurentians took over the leadership with a 25-11 victory at Finstall Park on Saturday.

Both title-chasing sides have now won nine out of ten league matches, but Laurentians occupy the number one spot because of a superior points difference.

Bromsgrove took the lead with a penalty from Matt Birch, but soon found themselves trailing when the visitors went over for a converted try.

An unconverted touchdown stretched their lead to 12-3 before Birch reduced the deficit with another penalty.

Laurentians stepped up the pressure in the second half and stretched their lead to 17-6 with further unconverted try.Bromsgrove, however, battled their way back to 17-11 with a try from Rich-ard Morrissey.

Birch missed the conversion and then had bad luck with a penalty attempt which hit the bar.

It proved a crucial turning point with Laurentians making the most of their let-off when they notched a penalty and then completed the scoring with a unconverted breakaway try.

For Bromsgrove it was a disappointing result, although they never played up to their potential.

"The two sides are clearly the best in the league, but it's a blow for us and the league is now back in the melting pot," said Bromsgrove Director of Coaching David Stout.

In Midlands One it was an eventful afternoon for Luctonians who secured a 27-5 victory over visiting Walsall.

The match, however, was dogged by fog and at one stage the floodlights failed.

Luctonians, however, overcame the difficulties to register their seventh league victory of the season.

After a period of Luctonians pressure, Walsall went ahead with an unconverted try before the home side equalised with a 34th minute effort from Anton Pilli.

After the interval Luctonians were a lot sharper and deserved to pull away for a comfortable win.

After Walsall had hit the post with a penalty, Luctonians went ahead when Will Crawforth went in for a try which Pilli converted.

Twenty minutes into the second period Crawforth touched down again for an unconverted try.

He then set up the chance for Charles Turner to go over.

Two minutes before the end the best move of the match ended in a try for James Owen.
