DETECTIVES still hunting a man who drove a stolen Land Rover at police officers as he attempted to make his getaway, are appealing for witnesses.
The vehicle was stolen from the car park behind Worcester Road at around 3.20pm last Wednesday.
Later, the offender and his accomplice, the driver of a red Suzuki Baleno, registration number N240 NCD, were seen outside Wilson's Pet Store in Market Street.
The Land Rover was next seen in Stourbridge Road, heading towards Catshill, stuck behind a tractor, by police motorcyclist PC Derek Chandler, who heard over his radio it had been stolen.
He followed the vehicle, which was eventually stopped by a police car blocking the road near the Crown pub
In an attempt to escape, the driver of the Land Rover reversed at PC Chandler clipping him with the vehicle and damaging the police car before driving off to meet his accomplice in the Suzuki at the Working Men's Club in Meadow Road.
They drove off in the Suzuki, which had alloy wheels, a sports body trim and which had been stolen some time between 9am and 3.20pm from Oldbury.
Police followed the men along Birmingham Road to the Lydiate Ash island where the offenders drove around it the wrong way before joining the M5 north.
After driving across four lanes of traffic, including the hard shoulder, followed by police, they left the motorway at Frankley and headed through the car park onto Illey Lane towards Halesowen at high speed and due to dangers to the public, the officers stopped.
A force spokesman said PC Chandler was back at work the next day, but the Sukuki one of only 12 in Britain has not been found.
Police are keen to speak to the tractor driver, an elderly couple who witnessed the incident in Stourbridge Road or anyone with information.
They should contact police on (01527) 584888 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
