MOTHERS with pushchairs and wheelchair-users could be forced to stray from the path in Cofton Hackett with the building of two new homes.

Cofton Hackett Parish Council members are worried the building of two detached houses on a corner plot of land in Barnt Green Road will reduce the width of the pavement.

The land is owned by Worcestershire County Council and planning permission has recently been granted for the building of two houses.

But a condition of the permission is that a section of new metal railings, installed last year by Bromsgrove District Council, is moved further towards the footpath to give better visibility to residents of the new houses, as they pull into the road.

Parish council clerk Judith Casey said: "Members consider the repositioning of the railings closer to the footway could cause problems to wheelchair-users, parents with pushchairs and other pedestrians."

The council has now written to Worcestershire Highways Partnership in Bromsgrove asking for their concerns to be taken on board.

Partnership manager Jon Fraser said: "We have recommend the railings be moved to improve the visibility and this can be achieved without inconvenience to pedestrians."
