IN my letter (You Say, November 19) I commented on the efforts by Peter Luff and the Headteachers' Forum to obtain adequate funding for Worcestershire schools and the less-than-enthusiastic support of our sitting MP.
I thought he had his position in the Education Ministry in mind when considering his level of support, apart from the fact that some publicity of the action by Conservative members would not have been in his interests, particularly if it appeared to produce a favourable response.
Subsequently, the visit to the Education Ministry secured what appeared to the Forum and Peter Luff to be a strong indication that something would, after all, be done in early course to rectify the underfunding in the short term, followed by (hopefully)something more permanent in the next review.
This concession would seem to result from the intervention of the Forum and Peter Luff.
This matter was aired on BBC Hereford & Worcester on November 21, when the headteacher of Cranham School expressed the aims of the Forum very clearly, without political bias.
However, Mike Foster, when telephoned, suggested that there may have been some bias to the Conservative side (which he attempted to withdraw later) by the Forum and again tried to persuade listeners that this would have happened anyway following the approaches to the Ministry by Jacqui Smith and himself.
It seems to me that this latest development is solely as a result of the most recent approach by Peter Luff and the Forum, and I am sure that perceptive Worcester voters will draw their own conclusions.
