IN some of his recent letters to You Say, the Rev D G Griffin expressed some anti-Islamic and mildly nationalistic views.
I do not deny him the right express opinions nor condemn him for them but, for a man of the cloth, he seems to be sailing very close to the wind and slowly steering away from Jesus' teaching.
In my opinion, we cannot claim to be Christians and wage war on our enemies in the same breath. That makes us no better than those misguided Islamic fundamentalists who terrorise innocent victims.
If Mr Griffin insists in serving God and country, he will do well to reflect on two things - first, read about the lives of Thomas Beckett, Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Oscar Romero.
Second, early Christians were persecuted and put to death. But Christianity flourished in spite of the persecutions, because one cannot kill a belief or an ideology.
