A FORMER Worcester man in prison in Greece with 11 other British plane-spotters could find out tomorrow whether he is free to return home for Christmas or whether he will be put on trial, which could lead to a maximum 20-year sentence.
The plane-spotters' lawyer Yannis Zacharias outlined the group's defence yesterday to three judges dealing with the case, claiming they were not guilty of espionage and should be freed after their five-week prison ordeal.
The panel, sitting in the town of Kalamata, failed to reach a decision and were due to return to consider their course of action later this morning.
Speaking after yesterday's adjournment, Mr Zacharias said he guessed the judges would spend today considering the case further before ruling tomorrow on whether to proceed with charges.
Greek prosecutors are adamant the 12 spotters - who include former Nunnery Wood High School pupil Wayne Groves, aged 38 - were spying when they were arrested on Thursday, November 8 taking pictures of military jets at an Army base, and today continued to press for them to face trial.
