THE first public telephones in the multi-million pound Kingfisher Shopping Centre were installed this week and proved to be an eye-catching addition for Christmas shoppers.
The futuristic perspex 'pods' and bright green 'stalks' were unceremoniously completed by Redditch Development Corporation workmen in Worcester Square on Tuesday afternoon.
And as workmen added the finishing touches, passers-by curiously watched the most up to date telephones in the town take shape.
After the workmen had left, the telephones were soon busy with shoppers anxious to try them out - or, discover if they were not on the loose from a lady's hairdressing salon.
But Redditch Development Corporation say they are proud of the new telephones.
