ALCESTER skipper Alan Williams is setting his sights on promotion after the Kings Coughton club suffered their third defeat of the season.

The captain has lowered his sights after seeing seemingly invincible leaders Coventry Marconi extend their perfect season to eight wins and race six points ahead of fourth placed Alcester.

But Williams said there is still everything to play for with two promotion places up for grabs.

Even if Alcester manage to beat the leaders, Marconi would have to lose another two games which looks unlikely on current form.

But the runners-up spot is a different matter with two points separating Shipston, Spartans and Alcester in the chasing pack.

Shipston have already lost to Alcester this season but bogey side Spartans extended their good form against the Kings Coughton side with a 30-17 win at the weekend.

Alcester take on what is likely to be a Kings Norton A team in a friendly on Saturday (ko 2.30pm) but Williams is more concerned with the return to league action against lowly Rugby St Andrews the following week.

The captain is desperate to avenge a surprise early season reverse to SA and put his side in the driving seat for promotion.
