Old Coventrians 19 Redditch Exiles 27
The first half was played at a keen pace, but mistakes were made as Redditch took time to gel.
The OC's main weapons were a large pack and a large fast centre.
And it was the largest of the pack who strolled over virtually untouched from a penalty move, which was converted.
Exiles' main weapon was the agility of their back line and once they settled down they were able to exploit their strengths, Wayne Sharpe breaking free to set up Trevor Pennington to score.
Redditch lost the lively Jason De Wharfe with a rib injury.
It was the turn of the OC's centre to show his speed after the break, his score also converted.
From this point the visitors stepped up a gear, Paul Buck got two opportunist tries, one converted by hooker Darren Field, who also kicked a penalty to stretch the lead to 22-14.
The hosts were tiring quicker than the Exiles and resorted to a rolling maul that was hard to foil, but didn't achieve anything till the last minute, by which time the game had been won as Pennington raced away for his second.
To rub salt in the wound OC's final kick was charged down.
