AN elderly couple were left badly shaken after burning paper was pushed through the letterbox of their home, setting fire to a draft excluder and a net curtain, writes Becky Procter.

The couple, both in their 70s, were alerted to the blaze by a fire alarm which went off in their Church Hill home at about 7.50pm last Wednesday.

Police are treating the incident as arson with intent to endanger life.

House to house inquires are being carried out and forensic tests have been conducted at the couple's Sandhurst Close house.

Pc Bailey said a thorough investigation was taking place and police were confident someone in the area would know who committed the arson attack.
