ALCESTER councillors have pulled the plug on the idea of having an additional skate park for the town.
It has been decided to spend money on improving the existing park at Conway Fields, despite youngsters lobbying the council for an additional facility, possibly in a play area near Bleachfield Street.
A group of youngsters recently addressed the council on the problems they had with the existing park.
They sent questionnaires to people living in and around Newport Drive and Bleachfield Street inquiring how residents would feel about adapting a small section of an existing play area for the purpose of skateboarding.
Many residents applauded the youngsters for their efforts but several did not approve of putting a skating area in the existing park because of noise nuisance and risks of injury.
It was agreed councillors would invite the youngsters to come and listen to the proposals which have been put forward and hear why Bleachfield Street is not suitable.
