THE father of a former Worcester man being held in Greek custody hopes his son will be back home in the next few days.

Ex-Nunnery Wood High School pupil Wayne Groves and 13 other plane-spotters have been granted £9,000 bail after a panel of three judges ruled they would not face espionage charges.

"Hopefully Wayne could be out of jail by tomorrow," said his 64-year-old father Don, speaking today from his Kilbury Drive home in Whittington.

"I spoke to him this morning and he sounded well considering what he has been through. I don't think it's a very pleasant place.

"I don't think he would go back to Greece again, but I don't think this will change his mind about plane spotting."

But the group, including Wayne, a 38-year-old railway manager who now lives in Tamworth, Staffordshire, will still face misdemeanour charges that carry a five-year jail sentence.

The group was arrested on Thursday, November 8, after allegedly taking photographs and making notes of military aircraft at an airbase in the south-eastern town of Kalamata.
