ATHLETICS: Kidderminster and Stourport Athletic Club's Liz Gould raced to third in the Gloucester Cross Country League at Cinderford in 25 minutes 35 seconds.

Gould was well supported by Colette Maynard, second for the club and eighth overall in 27-0, and Louise Littlewood, third for the club in 27-30.

The performance ensured the local ladies are third in the league after three races.

Showing the strength in depth of the team, Emma Payne (29-12) and Liz Danks (32-16) also completed the course.

Unfortunately, due to a tricky course which included a lot of tree stumps, Claire Bennett and Nicki Harris were unable to finish due to injury.

In the men's race, Neil Williams was first for the club and 16th overall in 39-39, followed by Kevin Green (39-51) and Ian Townsend (40-21).

Bob Park did well to finish in 41-40 in his first race after a long absence due to injury.

Other finishers: Carl Davis 41-54, Stuart Grainger 45-50, Ron Lynes 47-27, Graham Amer 48-0, Dave Vale 48-18.

Matt Grainger gave an outstanding performance in the U-17 boys race which he won.

In the U-15 boys race, Adam Grainger crossed the line sixth.

l Members took part in the West Midland Young Athletes Cross Country third race with Fay Kitchen the highest placed club athlete, finishing third in the U-15 girls event.

This is a series of five races and the athletes score points in each race as an individual and a team.

Caroline Park finished 47th in the U-11 girls in her first race for the club.

U-17 boys: 7 M Grainger; U-13 boys (fifth on the day and sixth overall): 20 Aiden Dourneen, 24 James Shuck, 37 James Humphries, 39 Jake Egginton, 69 Alister Ruddick.

U-15 girls (seventh on the day and fifth overall): 3 Kitchen, 5 Liz Dourneen, 24 Claire Cashmore, 69 Heidi Jarosinksi; U-13 girls (16th on the day and 16th overall): 73 Kera Bennett; U-11 girls: 47 Caroline Park.

l A team of U-15 girls finished second in the Midland Women's Cross Country League the previous week.
