A TAXI driver came to the rescue of a man who was subjected to a "completely unprovoked" attack after he left a Kidderminster nightclub.
The victim, who is in his mid-20s, was kicked about the body as he lay on the ground after being chased and tripped up by a gang of men in New Road.
But he managed to get away after a passing taxi stopped and the driver called him over. He ran to the vehicle, pursued by his attackers, and was driven away.
The man received treatment for a slight dislocation to his shoulder which will require future surgery. He also suffered bruising to his head and body.
One of his friends was also injured in the assault and had to be treated for a cut to his face.
The attack took place at 2am on Saturday when the victim, who had been enjoying a night out with friends, left the club.
PC Ian Langford of Kidderminster Police said: "This man has suffered a very painful injury as a result of a completely unprovoked attack."
And he appealed for anyone who witnessed the attack, particularly the taxi driver who intervened, to contact Kidderminster police on 01562 820888.
