LAST week's Shuttle/Times and News reported on grandiose Labour plans for a no-confidence vote in Councillor Pauline Hayward over the Kidderminster car parking situation at last week's full council meeting.
In the event it turned out to be the dampest squib I have ever seen in 28 years as a local councillor. Labour leader Jamie Shaw, quoted raving against her in your article, didn't even bother to turn up for the meeting.
The severe short-term parking problems are the result of the college move coming on top of the Weavers' Wharf development.
Unfortunately ,we have no control over the timing of the college move which is essential if we are to retain a college in the town.
Labour were laughed out because: a) they, like the rest of us, did not oppose the college move, because we all know it is essential and b) at no time have they made even a single suggestion of their own to alleviate the problems.
Instead by 29 votes to eight, with one abstention, the council voted for an amendment denouncing Labour hypocrisy and failure on the issue and emphatically backing Pauline Hayward who has done a first-rate job working round the clock in deploying every possible means to alleviate the short-term parking problems.
