I WOULD like to express my disappointment on the situation over Bewdley's first Christmas tree.
Some Bewdley residents regarded it as not good enough. Well, the thing is, does it matter what the tree looks like?
Christmas isn't about whether you have a good-looking tree in your town each December, it's about the birth of Jesus - if some of you had forgotten.
You put a few lights on the tree and get on with it. It's not important. It's about enjoying and celebrating the Christmas festivities, not worrying that the tree in your town isn't the right shape - it's pathetic.
How do you think Mary and Joseph felt when they kept getting turned away because they didn't have the right look about them? They ended up in a stable.
Where has the first tree ended up? Chopped up and discarded like an unwanted thing?
It isn't the question of if you pay a lot of money you should get the perfect tree. Life isn't perfect and trees come in all shapes and sizes, just like people.
But would you say: "I don't want him to be Jesus, he's too ugly"? No, you wouldn't. So leave the ugly tree alone.
If I am right in thinking that the Rotary Club, who each year do their best to arrange Bewdley's tree and the delivery of it, have said this will be the last year they will do it, I can't blame them. Fair play to them in fact.
Let the whingeing folk of Bewdley organise the tree next year, along with the putting up of the lights. It's just a shame the lights were up before the moaning began as it would have been good to see the "moaners" have to organise that too.
At the end of the day, it's a tree.
